American teenager Ryan Harrison has split with coach Martin Damm and is traveling with his father and coach Pat again, TENNIS.com has learned.
The 18-year-old Harrison was working with USTA coaches Jay Berger and Diego Moyano much of last year, but decided to hire Damm after qualifying for the U.S. Open, where he upset 17th seed Ivan Ljubicic and took Sergiy Stakhovsky to five sets. Damm works out of the IMG-owned Nick Bollettieri Academy, where he and his younger brother Christian train and his father works.
But Harrison had a slow start to 2011, qualifying for Brisbane but then losing in the opening round to Robin Soderling, and then played poorly in a straight-set loss to Adrian Mannarino at the Australian Open.
He then traveled to Honolulu alone and won the Challenger there, pushing his ranking to a career high No. 140.
On Saturday in Memphis, he lost to Germany's Bjorn Phau in the first round of qualifying.
