Both Grigor Dimitrov and Novak Djokovic were surprised that the crowd was heavily in the Bulgarian’s favor during his upset of the world No. 1 in Madrid.

“I seriously didn’t expect that,” Dimitrov said. “That was the one thing that of course cheered me up a lot. It was definitely new experience for me, because usually you get that sort of a crowd when you’re playing Davis Cup or something like that. But I guess tonight was also one of these nights that kind of things are going your way and they’re there with you. I mean, of course I believe that some of them really wanted to see something else as well. You know, the whole fight in general, the three sets, I mean, it was a lot of fun, a lot entertainment for everyone.”

Djokovic seemed surprised.

“For the crowd, they picked him as the favorite player to support, so that’s all I can say,” he said. “Did you see the reason that the crowd turn against me? I don’t know what to say.”
