"I've been associated with 'Text a Star' since before Wimbledon this year. I've really enjoyed giving my fans a special insight into a lot of things especially life on the tennis tour, the emotions I feel right before competing or straight after a big match, and also activities I enjoy doing as an everyday Aussie bloke with family and friends.
With Text a Star, as an athlete, I'm able to communicate directly and in real time to my fans in the comfort of knowing the content of my messages that they receive are appropriate and legitimate. What has happened in this case proves that inaccurate information (i.e., it was 'confirmed' last week [incorrectly] Bec gave birth to a boy) gets widespread coverage. Text a Star guarantees its recipients that the content they receive is real-time, accurate and appropriate.
Some sections of the media have as usual found it opportune to place some spin on reality by suggesting we have taken this approach just to make money. Certain media people believe that are the only ones who should have an exclusive. In this instance we made a decision that my fans deserve to know first, and the general public second. That's what we have done and just look at how many of the media have reported it."
