Bob Bryan has had hip surgery and will not play for the rest of the season.

The 40-year-old doubles champion has not played since getting injured at Madrid. Saying that the procedure "went smoothly," he also indicated he plans to resume competition by referring "to a healthier & stronger future on the court."

The injury has also left twin brother Mike looking around for other partners in the meantime. The Bryans had a good start to the season and are still likely to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals in London, though they will now not play the event together.

But Mike is experiencing some success on his own, partnering Jack Sock to  victory at Wimbledon. It gave him his 17th Grand Slam, one more than Bob, and returned him to No. 1 in the rankings.

It could also mean a spot at the Tour Finals. Grand Slam champions are usually invited to play even if they do not have the points to qualify for the field.

The new pairing is also scheduled to play together at Toronto, Cincinnati and the US Open, and could now add more events.

Sock is returning from an ankle injury.
