"How do you beat Roger Federer?" Taylor Fritz answers that question

Taylor Fritz has played as well as can be expected for a 21-year-old who had never won a main-draw match at the Australian Open coming into this year's tournament. He began with a straight-sets win over Cameron Norrie—his doubles partner Down Under—and followed that with a tense four-set win over the No. 30 seed, Gael Monfils. The popular Frenchman had the edge in experience and the crowd on his side. But Fritz had the shots, winning tiebreakers in the third and fourth sets to reach the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

If Fritz is to reach his first round of 16 at a major, he'll certainly have earned it, because his next opponent is none other than two-time defending champion Roger Federer. It won't be the first time they've faced each other, having met on grass in 2016, in Stuttgart. Federer was tested that day, winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

What can Fritz do against Federer this time? That's the question Tennis Channel's Jon Wertheim posed to the American during his off day in Melbourne Park. And here's an interesting note: in Fritz's coaching corner is Paul Annacone, who years ago coached the Swiss legend. Fritz, who watched reams of Federer video as a junior player, will get even more information about his iconic opponent as he faces his toughest test yet.
