Former world No. 14 Dominik Hrbaty of the Slovak Republic has signed on to become the Davis Cup captain of Turkey — if the International Tennis Federation approves an exception to allow the squad to be coached by a man from another country.
The Slovak News Agency reported that Hrbaty signed a three-year deal and will also work for the Turkish Federation in other coaching roles. He was unable to come to an agreement with Slovak Tennis Federation.
In 2005, Hrbaty posted a 6-1 singles record in leading the Slovak Republic to its first Davis Cup final where it fell to Croatia, 3-2. Hrbaty defeated Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic in the final.
