LONDON (AP) -- British player Ross Hutchins has announced his retirement from professional tennis, nine months after returning to the court following his recovery from cancer.
Hutchins was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells, in December 2012. He was back playing on the doubles circuit this January.
The 29-year-old Hutchins, who won five doubles tournaments on the ATP tour, says in a statement released Friday by the Lawn Tennis Association that ''I feel strong and healthy and I look forward to moving on to the next chapter of my life.''
In March, Hutchins was appointed as the tournament director of the Queen's Club tournament, the traditional warm-up event for Wimbledon.
