Iga Swiatek wins 6-0, 6-1—again—en route to Doha final against Jessica Pegula

Iga Swiatek has posted some remarkable numbers over the last 12 months, during which she's become the undisputed queen of women's tennis. But this stat might take the cake: on Friday, she reached the final of a WTA 500 tournament with the loss of just two games all week.

A caveat: Swiatek has played just two matches in Doha, given her early-round bye and quarterfinal walkover past Belinda Bencic. But that should take nothing away from the world No. 1's ruthless aggression against Danielle Collins (an Australian Open finalist last year) and Veronika Kudermetova (the No. 8 seed in a loaded tournament). In both instances, she won 6-0, 6-1.

So, how is Swiatek's week going, the tournament emcee asked the 21-year-old?

"Good," a smiling Swiatek shot back, as she's done with so many of her groundstrokes against Collins and Kudermetova. "I feel great."

Swiatek will play her 14th tour-level final on Saturday; she's 11-2 when a title is on the line. She's 4-2 against her opponent, Jessica Pegula, with all four victories coming last year in the late rounds of tournaments:

• Miami final: 6-2, 7-5
• Roland Garros quarterfinal: 6-3, 6-2
• US Open quarterfinal: 6-3, 7-6 (4)
• San Diego semifinal: 4-6, 6-2, 6-2

The numbers are clearly in Swiatek's corner, but her most recent collision with Pegula ended in defeat, at this year's United Cup (6-2, 6-2).

There wasn't much to say about the Pole's demolitions in Doha, so the conversation naturally shifted to the final—one that should reveal plenty about both competitors.

"It always takes a lot to win against Jessie, she's a great player, really solid one," said Swiatek. "We'll see, honestly, I don't know what's going to happen. I'm not going to predict anything and over-analyze—I'm just going to go and play my best tennis."

Is Iga currently playing her best tennis? Pegula, who will need to play her best to stand any chance, surely hopes so.
