Roger Federer on his desire to get the No. 1 ranking back from Rafael Nadal:
"Sure, it's going to be challenging. It's going to be very difficult because Rafa is playing well and I have to defend my points in Australia and he has no points to defend here in London. That's why things look very good for him over the next few months...Right now the No. 1 ranking is not something I have in my mind. "My goal is to play well here in London and then prepare well for next season and then hopefully, at some stage, I'll try get it back...I've played four of the last five weeks and my game is right where I want it to be. It's the ninth time for me [in the ATP finals] and I know the drill. I feel like I've got one more tournament left in me. My body is not screaming for a vacation quite yet.”
Rafael Nadalon his feelings after having left London last year with three losses in the group stage without winning a set:
“I’ll try my best to change the situation this year. Last year was bad. This tournament is a more difficult one for me because of the surface, because of the opponents, I am not out for revenge, but I’ll try to do better this year...The ball is little dead. It doesn’t have very much lift.”
Andy Roddickon facing Nadal in his opening match:
"It's strange because it's a polarizing event for the crowd. I normally get a really good reception but then a tournament like this comes along and I've got Rafa in the first round so I can't take that for granted...I honestly feel all the guys here are after the title and not the money. I know it sounds hard to believe we're not thinking about prize money but it really doesn't factor into it when a big event like this is coming up."
Andy Murrayon his chances to win the title and his year overall:
"It's tough. I feel more complete. If I play well, I'll give myself a good chance of winning the matches, if I don't it's going to be hard...It's been a good year. It's been a bit inconsistent. Definitely the last few months I feel like I've improved a lot, I've improved many different parts of my game. I feel like I'm starting to learn new things again, which is nice."
