7-6 isn't quite in the same league as 70-68, but John Isner's first singles match since his Wimbledon marathon also went the distance, ending in a third-set tiebreak. Isner defeated Gilles Muller 4-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(7) in his opening match at Atlanta, saving match point in both the second and third sets.

AP reports that a fan shouted "70-68, baby!" after the first point of the deciding tiebreak, but Isner managed to wrap up victory 15 points later in a relatively tame two and a half hours.

"This win was huge," said Isner. "First match back, a big-serving left-hander, he's not going to give you much rhythm. So that was a little bit working against me, but I just told myself to compete."
