NEW YORK (AP) John Isner served 17 aces Sunday night in a 7-6 (9), 6-4, 6-4 victory over fellow American Alex Bogomolov Jr., and moved to the fourth round of the U.S. Open, matching the deepest run he's made in a Grand Slam tournament.
Isner won his eighth straight match, a streak dating to a tune-up he won in Winston-Salem last weekend.
The 28th-seeded Isner is the fourth American to make the round of 16 at this year's U.S. Open - matching the most U.S. men to make it this deep since 2003, when Andy Roddick won at Flushing Meadows.
Isner's serve topped out at 139 mph and he brought his ace total to 51 for the tournament, the second most of any man left in the draw.
His next match is against No. 12 Gilles Simon of France.
