FRIBOURG, Switzerland (AP) Roger Federer was jolted at the Davis Cup with a four-set loss to John Isner on Friday, leaving the United States ahead 2-0 in the first-round series.

Isner won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2, his big serve backed by booming ground strokes that challenged the Swiss star in long rallies on the indoor clay court.

The upset of the third-ranked Federer was preceded by a thriller in the opening singles match in which Mardy Fish outlasted Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 9-7.

The U.S. can eliminate Switzerland in doubles in the best-of-five series Saturday when Mike Bryan and teenager Ryan Harrison are set to face Federer and Wawrinka, the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalists.
