ZAGREB, Croatia (AP)—Croatia's tennis federation has ruled out Goran Ivanisevic as the next captain of its Davis Cup team because of his financial demands.
The federation said Friday the former Wimbledon champion has asked for $130,600 for a one-year contract that "despite his authority and professionalism'' was deemed too expensive.
Ivanisevic will lead Croatia against Japan on a one-time, unpaid basis in the Davis Cup first-round series on Feb. 10-12.
Goran Prpic unexpectedly resigned as the captain of the country's Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams last month.
Also Friday, Croatian tennis officials picked former French Open champion Iva Majoli as Fed Cup captain for the women's team.
