Juan Martin del Potro, who lost in straight sets to Roger Federer in Miami, said that the Swiss has really added to his backhand.

In 2016, Federer hired Ivan Ljubicic to be his coach, but a knee injury stopped him from playing after Wimbledon. Since coming back, Federer has changed the way he is hitting his one-hander, moving forward and making sure that the ball doesn’t get up too high.

“He always has a good backhand, but at the moment [it’s] even better because his legs are moving faster than years ago,” Del Potro said. “I think that is the key of his improvement with the backhand.”

Federer will play Tomas Berdych on Thursday.
