WATCH: Karen Khachanov reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Russian Karen Khachanov announced Friday that he'll miss Wimbledon as a result of an injury he suffered at Roland Garros.

It's the second year in a row that Khachanov, a 2021 quarterfinalist, will not play at the All England Club. Last year, he was banned from competing at the event as a consequence of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This year, the Russian revealed that he suffered "an unfortunate injury,"—a stress fracture and a partial fracture in his sacrum S1 bone, in his hip and groin—during the fortnight in Paris, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in a four-set quarterfinal.

In an Instagram post, Khachanov wrote that he hoped he'd recover in time to compete at Wimbledon, but that his doctors advised him otherwise.

Khachanov, the world No. 11, had a successful Grand Slam season to date prior to his injury: In addition to a run to the last eight in Paris, he also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open.

Khachanov's best result at Wimbledon came the last time he played it two years ago. In the quarterfinals that year, he lost in five sets to Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

In his statement, Khachanov added that he hopes to return for the summer hard-court swing in August. In the interim, the 2022 US Open semifinalist wrote, he and his wife Veronika are preparing to welcome their second son in the coming weeks.

"I remain committed and will use this setback as motivation to come back and hopefully keep achieving as I wish to do," Khachanov added. "Thank you for your understanding and your continued support, it means a lot to me. Big hugs!"
