Ivo Karlovic is in a Miami hospital apparently suffering from viral meningitis. Karlovic’s friend and former Croatian Davis Cup teammate Ivan Ljubicic confirmed to TENNIS.com that the 34-year-old Karlovic is indeed hospitalized in Florida, where he lives with his family.

On Sunday, the web site Tennis Grandstand translated a report from the Croatian newspaper Vecernji List that said Karlovic’s wife, Alsi, confirmed that he has viral meningitis. She asked for privacy as well as thanking people for their "well wishes.”

There is no specific treatment for viral meningitis — it is not treatable with antibiotics — but according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention “most patients completely recover on their own within 7 to 10 days. A hospital stay may be necessary in more severe cases or for people with weak immune systems.”

Karlovic, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 14 in 2008, is currently ranked No. 135. He recently qualified for Houston and reached the second round, falling to Rhyne Williams in a third-set tie breaker. Two weeks ago, he lost in the first round of the Sarasota Challenger.
