Kei Nishikori delays NYC trip after positive COVID-19 test in Florida

Kei Nishikori, who hasn't played a match since the 2019 US Open, will see his anticipated return delayed further after testing positive for COVID-19.

The current world No. 31 shared the news on his personal app, writing, "I have some unfortunate news. This morning, while still in Florida, I got tested for COVID-19 and tested positive," he wrote.

"I will have to pull out of the Cincinnati tournament at this time. I am feeling well and have very little symptoms but will obviously be in complete isolation for the safety of everyone."

Nishikori added that he and his team will get tested again on Friday, before a follow-up update on his US Open status is provided. In 2014, the Japanese star defeated Milos Raonic, Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic in succession to reach his lone major final at Flushing Meadows, and later added semifinal runs in 2016 and 2018.

The 30-year-old lost to rising Australian Alex de Minaur in the third round last year, before undergoing season-ending right elbow surgery.
