OSAKA, Japan (AP) -- Second-seeded Madison Keys of the United States advanced to the second round of the Japan Women's Open by beating Sachia Vickery 6-3, 6-3 Monday.
Keys converted five of nine break points in the first meeting of the two players.
Also, third-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine beat Shelby Rogers of the United States 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-1 and will next face Japanese wild-card entry Naomi Osaka in the second round. Osaka beat Erika Sema 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.
Sixth-seeded Heather Watson of Britain rallied from a set down to beat Jovana Jaksic of Serbia 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand eliminated seventh-seeded Christina McHale of the United States 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
