BIRMINGHAM, England (AP)—Vania King of the United States advanced to the second round of the Aegon Classic on Tuesday, while Maria Sharapova’s match was postponed because of rain.

King defeated Kirsten Flipkens 6-4, 6-0, while Aleksandra Wozniak stopped Alicia Molik 7-5, 6-1.

Sharapova’s match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States will be played on Wednesday.

The four-hour rain delay also postponed a matchup between Yanina Wickmayer and Laura Robson, a 16-year-old from Britain who qualified for a WTA Tour main draw for the first time.
