Olympic bronze medalist Maria Kirilenko and doubles partner Nadia Petrova were given cars for their victory. Kirilenko told the New Haven Register that Russian premier Vladimir Putin rewarded all Russian medalists with exclusive black Audis. “It’s a good car,” said Kirilenko.

Caroline Wozniacki, who is also playing New Haven, said that playing at Wimbledon and staying in the village didn't equal her experience in Beijing four years ago. “In London it was a bit different because the Olympic Village was a 1½-hour drive from the site,” Wozniacki told the New Haven Register. “We played at Wimbledon where they said it was sold out, but it wasn’t packed. There was a lot of security around. It just wasn’t the same feeling.”
