With her straight set victory over Flavia Pennetta in the semis of Dubai, two-times Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova will climb back to No. 13. But the Russian still rues some of her Grand Slam performances.
"You know a Grand Slam is different," she said. "And I've had this feeling of coming close to the title. But I felt like I was feeling so good to play this Australian Open, the best maybe I was feeling. It was two years: this year [when she lost a time record match to Francesca Schiavone) and the year I lost to Serena on centre court when they closed the roof. These two years were my best chances in the Australian Open, and I'm very upset missing them. Even if I don't win, I am playing great game now and I am doing good. Some people call me masochist because I always start to think things over and over."
