Laura Robson makes One Direction fans at Wimbledon

It was bound to happen, and now it's here: The world outside of tennis is falling in love with Laura Robson. The sole British woman remaining in the Wimbledon singles draw prevailed, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, against New Zealand's Marina Erakovic to make it to the second week of this prestigious Grand Slam event. She's the first British woman to do so since Sam Smith in 1998. What's more, here's Robson in a press conference after her second-round match, explaining her feelings about being tweeted by boy band One Direction's Hary Styles and saying that she's not above a little "cheesy music."

Suffice it to say, this young woman has endeared herself not just to her home nation, but also to the world at large. Here's what transpired on Twitter:

Robson struggled today before usurping her nerves and her opponent, a friend. "Well, yeah, I was getting my butt kicked basically," Robson told the BBC soon after the match, still sweaty from the three-set encounter. She moves on to face the winner of the Kaia Kanepi–Alison Riske third-rounder, a match that no less than Chris Evert said on ESPN was entirely winnable for Robson.
