Spanish player David Ferrer has been getting a lot of flak for launching a tennis ball in the direction of a crying baby during his match against Mardy Fish at the Sony Ericsson Open. The below clip, from ABC News, has received over 550,000 views. Google his name and headlines pop up like, "Tennis pro David Ferrer gets mad at crying baby during match" and "Tennis player David Ferrer Hits Ball at Crying Baby." I wasn't at the match, but I've watched the clip over and over and, frankly, I don't get what all the attention is about. It's not like he slammed a 130-mph shot at the kid. He lobbed it into the stands, and as the presenter says, the ball didn't even come near the tot. This kind of drama is unnecessary, and it's making Ferrer out to be some evil-doer when he's not. He may have lacked judgment in how he let out his frustration, but I don't think Ferrer deserves this kind of treatment. I say, leave David alone!
