Sabine Lisicki tells Bild that she was in dire straits after contracting food poisoning during the tournament in Beijing.

"China was a disaster and has been messed up my rhythm," the 18th-ranked German said. "After the first match I've eaten meat and an hour later I felt sick during training. I went to the hospital, as did five other players and players on the day. I was stuck for hours on a drip. It was a life-threatening situation. The doctors panicked when I got to the hospital. I was extremely dehydrated, almost unconscious. As the doctors spoke to me, they were quite far away for me, at the end of the tunnel. They were standing right beside me. I’ve been so seriously ill in my life."
