Peter Bretherton has been elected as President of Britain's Lawn Tennis Association, succeeding Derek Howorth.

Cathie Sabin, a member of the board of the LTA, was elected deputy president, and becomes the first woman to hold this position. An attorney, Bretherton is also an active senior tennis player.

The LTA also published a progress update on its Blueprint strategy for British tennis, where it claims the number of juniors competing has quadrupled in the past three years, and the number of internationally competitive juniors has risen from 18 to 31. However, the number of players in the top 100 has dropped from nine to six of the past year. The LTA also reports that in the last three years, the number of adults playing weekly has risen from around 457,000 to 506,000.—Matthew Cronin
