LTA intends to host first British National Championships since 2002

The LTA is planning to return to holding a British national championships, says the *BBC*.

It would be played indoors during the second half of the season and include men's and women's events, in addition to juniors and wheelchair fields.

The event has not been contested since 2002. But with the tours on hiatus, national competitions are being restarted across Europe.

The LTA is also looking at approving a British men's competition being organized by Jamie Murray, to be played during the fortnight usually occupied by Wimbledon, and a similar women's event in addition. Both could be played with no spectators.

"The LTA is committed to ensuring that whatever events are staged, they take tennis to the widest possible audience and they focus on addressing the needs of our performance players," the federation stated.

It also said all required safety protocols would be followed at the events. The national training center has also reopened for use by federation players.
