STOCKHOLM (AP)—A Swedish appeals court has convicted a man of rioting outside a Davis Cup tennis match between Israel and Sweden and sentenced him to six months in prison.
The court on Thursday overturned a decision by a lower court that had acquitted the 23-year-old, saying he could not be positively identified in video footage of the riots in Malmo in March.
Prosecutor Bo Birgerson says about 10 people have been convicted in connection with the violence that erupted during an anti-Israel demonstration outside the stadium.
The matches were played without spectators because Malmo officials said they could not guarantee security. The decision cost the Swedish tennis federation $5,000 in fines. Malmo was banned from hosting Davis Cup matches for five years.
