SANTIAGO, Chile (AP)—Nicolas Massu will face Ivo Minar in the opening match of the Davis Cup quarterfinal between Chile and the Czech Republic on Friday.

The pair meet for the first time. So will Paul Capdeville of Chile and Jan Hajek, who were drawn on Thursday in the second singles.

Doubles are set for Saturday with reverse singles on Sunday in the best-of-five tie.

The Czech Republic was the runner-up last year to Spain, but is without two of its top players. Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych has a stomach injury and Radek Stepanek is out with knee problems. Chile is also without its leading player Fernando Gonzalez, who is nursing a knee injury.

The Czech Republic and Chile have met only once in Davis Cup play. In 1967, Chile won 3-2 in a Europe Zone quarterfinal in Prague.

Chile reached the quarterfinals by defeating Israel 4-1. The Czechs beat Belgium 4-1 at the same time in March.

The Czechs won the Davis Cup in 1980 but Chile has never won it, its best result being runner-up in 1976.

The full Chile team includes Massu, Capdeville, Jorge Aguilar and Cristobal Saavedra-Corvalan.

The Czechs are represented by Hajek, Minar, Lukas Dlouhy and Frantisek Cermak.
