American Bethanie Mattek-Sands’ season has ended after she suffered a right knee injury during the third set of her match against Ajla Tomljanovic on indoor carpet in Quebec City on Thursday. Mattek-Sands retired from the match, trailing 7-5, 3-6, 4-1.
TENNIS.com has learned that the 28-year-old American tore her Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL), but that tests show she didn't suffer any additional damage to other parts of her knee. The world No. 46 is hoping to rehabilitate her injury in time for the start of the 2014 season in Australia.
