American teenager Christina McHale knocks out No. 28 Ekaterina Makarova, 2-6, 6-1, 8-6; it's the first time McHale has beaten a seed at a major. The 19-year-old was relieved to win the match after she had blown a 5-0 lead in the third set against Italy's Sara Errani in the first round of Roland Garros. "I’m really excited to pull it out," she told a small group of U.S. reporters. "It definitely feels a lot better to be on this side of the match. [Losing in Paris] made me want to work harder because I didn’t want that to happen again."
