Great Britain’s Melanie South has retired to focus on coaching, the LTA reported.
The 27-year-old reached a career-high ranking of No. 99 in February 2009. She won six ITF singles titles and 24 ITF doubles titles. She also won a round at Wimbledon in her Grand Slam debut in 2006, beating Francesca Schiavone.
“I feel ready and excited to move onto the next stage of my life,” South said. “I’ve had many great moments in my career and am proud of the highs I have reached. There are always ups and downs in a player’s career and I have been through many of both. I have suffered a few injuries that have now taken their toll on my body but overall I am proud of how I have dealt with both the highs and lows.”
