Sania Mirza, who married Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik earlier this week, said on her Twitter account that she’ll continue to hold an Indian passport and play for India.
She and Malik are headed to Pakistan next week to continue celebrations there and she is planning on returning to the tour around Wimbledon.
In an interview on CNN, Mirza said that her husband’s nationality didn’t affect her decision to marry him. "I was marrying a person, not a Pakistani, people try to make it political but we were very clear that we were two individuals who were getting married just like normal people,” she said. “Everyone had an opinion, everyone wanted to have a say, but the most important thing is that now we are relieved as we are married,” she said.
