SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) Two-time finalist Juan Monaco was knocked out of the first round of the Movistar Open by fellow Argentine Maximo Gonzalez 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 Tuesday.
Gonzalez needed two hours, 45 minutes to close it out. He had lost two previous matches to Monaco.
In other matches, seventh-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy defeated Lukasz Kobot of Poland, 7-6 (6), 6-2, and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina beat Ricardo Hocevar of Brazil, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Top-seeded David Nalbandian played later against fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq.
