Tour life has been an enjoyable experience for Spain's Garbine Muguruza, but there are a few things she would like to change if she could.
The 21-year-old is ranked No. 24, with wins against Serena Williams and Simona Halep. In an interview, she told Sport360 in Dubai that she likes playing against the top players, and is aiming to be one herself.
"So for me it’s good to see that I’m playing in these events all the time now. It’s just motivation, I’m here with the best players," she said.
But being a pro is demanding, she added, which limits what else she does. "There are so many things you can do but you can’t. Going on vacation with friends, you cannot. A lot of things sometimes I want to do and I can’t. You can’t go skiing because you can break your leg," Muguruza said.
While she is friendliest with the Spanish players, Muguruza also wants to get to know other players better, saying she would like "to have more relation with other people. Not to live in a bubble. We don’t talk with anyone. To be more open. But we can’t do this together, so."
"It's not like that on the men's tour. I don't understand why," she added. "The men just sit there, they eat, they have dinner together."
Winning her opening match in three sets, Muguruza defeated Jelena Jankovic in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
