British representation at Wimbledon is down to Andy Murray after Tuesday, with Jamie Baker and all the British women exiting in the first round.

Baker lost 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-4 to Andreas Beck, but most of the women had closer matches. Melanie South was an exception, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Regina Kulikova.

Alona Bondarenko won 6-3, 6-7(10), 6-4 against Katie O'Brien, while qualifier Rominda  Oprandi defeated teenager Heather Watson 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

Hometown nerves played a role for Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong. Baltacha lost 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Petra Martic.

"I was in control, winning the first set and up to 5-4," said Baltacha. "Then I got tight."

Keothavong was up 4-0 in the third set before losing 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Anastasia Rodionova.

"You know, I really fought my heart out out there. She held her nerve better than I did," said Keothavong.
