Austria's Thomas Muster officially retires at the age of 44 after losing to teenage compatriot Dominic Thiem in Vienna, 6-2, 6-3. The 1995 Roland Garros champion and former No. 1 had never officially retired, even though he previously stopped playing on the ATP tour for 11 years.

Muster returned to competition in June 2010, playing a number of Challengers and three ATP events. "I never had a chance to say goodbye," said Muster told the crowd. "This is such a great goodbye. This is definitely my last appearance on the ATP. It was my last match, it was very exciting to end it in Vienna and very emotional. It was such a send off. I didn't know whether to cry or play."
