Rafael Nadal has won his second Wimbledon title and his eighth Grand Slam, defeating Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Nadal won in 2008 before injuries caused him to miss the event last year."This year I came back," said Nadal, "and to have ths trophy in my hands is more than a dream."

Nadal broke for the first time at 3-3 as Berdych's serve faltered, with the world No. 1 hitting a return winner off a second serve. The Czech stepped up his level of play in the second set and held break points in the opening game, one on a double fault from Nadal. But the Spaniard held on and largely ending Berdych's hopes of winning the match when he broke again and took the second set. Nadal also broke in the final game of the match, turning a somersault on Centre Court after returning to his chair.

Nadal is now 31-1 since the end of Miami.

"He's showing in the last few months that he's really the champion, and he just deserves to win today," said Berdych, who was playing in his first Grand Slam final.

He defeated Roger Federer in the quarterfinals to end the Swiss' run of seven straight Wimbledon finals. "It gives me extra confidence and extra power for future years."
