Winning his first title in 11 months with a 6-0, 6-1 demolition fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the Monte Carlo final, Rafael Nadal became the first player in the Open Era to win a title six straight years.
The 13-game final was fewest in an ATP Masters 1000 final since 1990. Amazingly, Nadal only lost 14 games en route to the crown and hung devastating defeats on three competent Spaniards along the way – Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer and Verdasco.
Nadal’s six straight crowns equals the title record of England's Reggie Doherty (1897-99, 1902-04).
"I hope Rafa will be tired of winning here," said Verdasco, who is 0-10 against Nadal.
