Rafael Nadal has received injections in both knees ahead of his trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, to watch Spain play the World Cup final on Sunday.
The treatment is designed to combat the tendinitis that affects the Spanish world No. 1 in both knees. The appointment was moved ahead by three days to accomodate Nadal's decision to attend the soccer match, reports EFE.
Nadal had an initial medical consultation on Monday, when an MRI indicated that his left knee should also receive another round of what appears to be platelet-rich therapy (PRP). The procedure had already been planned for his right knee.
PRP involves spinning the patient's own blood in a centrifuge and then injecting the enriched blood into the injured area in an effort to speed up the healing process. Nadal underwent the procedure on his left knee for the first time in April and has said he was happy with the results.
