David Nalbandian has denied friction with team captain Tito Vasquez following Argentina's 5-0 defeat to France in the Davis Cup semifinals.
After losing his opening singles to Gael Monfils, Nalbandian suggested he was unhappy with the decision to nominate Juan Monaco and not Eduardo Schwank as the other singles player on Friday. The lineup meant that Nalbandian went in as the second-ranked player on the team and faced Monfils rather than Michael Llodra. In Davis Cup, the first- and second-ranked players from each team face each other on opening day.
"It was a valid decision" said Nalbandian. "It was all uncertain [who would play singles for France]... we did not know what would happen. Tito decided like this, sometimes can be good and other times not.
"If you want to win the Davis Cup, you have to beat Monfils Monday, Tuesday or Thursday."
Monaco lost to Llodra and Nalbandian went down to Monfils, both in four sets, with the team losing the doubles the next day to seal the defeat.
Argentina is still searching for its first Davis Cup title.
