Next up on Novak Djokovic's schedule? Miami, Monte Carlo and Belgrade

The Miami Open will be the site of Novak Djokovic’s return to action, the 18-time major winner confirmed on his website.

Djokovic is set to become the ATP’s all-time leader in weeks as world No. 1 on Monday with his 311th week atop the rankings, overtaking Roger Federer. Just 14 days ago, the 33-year-old outclassed Daniil Medvedev to capture a record-extending ninth Australian Open crown.

The holder of a career Golden Masters, Miami holds a special place in the Serbian’s heart, as it was the site of his first triumph at the Masters 1000 level back in 2007. The 2021 edition is due to kick off main draw men’s action on March 24. The longstanding tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last season, Djokovic won two of the three ATP Masters 1000 events that were staged after the tour resumed in August, at 'Cincinnati in New York' and Rome. With his victory over Diego Schwartzman in September’s Rome final, Djokovic regained the record for most Masters 1000 crowns with his 36th trophy, surpassing Rafael Nadal. Six pieces of that hardware are represented by successes in Miami, with his latest coming in 2016 when he completed a three-peat.

Djokovic also shared his European clay-court season will begin on April 11 in Monte Carlo, where he tasted victory in 2013 and 2015, before he stars at home the following week in Belgrade for the Serbia Open. The ATP 250 tournament will be hosted at the Novak Tennis Center.
