Nick Kyrgios has been receiving medical attention for his knee, attempting to get as fit as he can for the Australian Open.
"I'm getting some sort of cortisone thing, but it's not an injection," he said following an exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Sydney.
The 21-year-old Australian said the knee bothered him slightly during the encounter, but insisted he would not be severely affected during the Australian Open.
“I just have to do all the right things,” Kyrgios said. “Ice it now, look after it and take extreme caution … But I'm really happy with how it pulled up. I have a couple more treatments to go with what I'm doing. I think I'm improving every day."
He withdrew from his final mixed-doubles match at the Hopman Cup with the injury.
His commitment to recovering has even extended to staying off the basketball court, which he has indicated was where the injury might have occurred.
"Nah, I want to play, but my team has told me, ‘Look, Nick, you have a pretty big couple of weeks,’ so I can play afterwards," he said. "I'm leaving it a little bit. It was just the load. I had a week off in the Bahamas, then went into some pretty heavy training. I obviously didn't have much strength and conditioning for a little bit."
