It’s been nearly three months since basketball legend Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash, along with his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers. On Sunday, Nick Kyrgios—a huge basketball fan—took to Instagram to show off new ink on his arm dedicated to his late idol.

“When I saw the image, I realized it was that,” Kyrgios said in an Instagram video. “I wanted to tattoo something from Kobe after everything that happened.”

The artwork also includes an image of current Los Angeles Laker LeBron James, and Nike shoes worn by Michael Jordan.

On the day of the tragedy, the Aussie had honored Bryant in a touching tribute at the Australian Open by warming up for his fourth-round match against Rafael Nadal in the basketball star’s original No. 8 Lakers jersey.

“I wore his shirt the day he died at the Australian Open and cried during that day,” he said in the video. “I watch basketball every day and it is an important part of my life. I can never imitate what Kobe did, but there may be times in my life when I try.”

Elsewhere on his social media, the 24-year-old—who in January helped lead a campaign that raised millions of dollars for the Australian bushfire relief effort—has shown his charitable side. Last week, he offered to provide food to those affected by the coronavirus.
