Not Quite Roasting Roger Federer on His 32nd Birthday

Having recently made a 17-year-old fan and cancer patient's dreams come true, Roger Federer heads into practice in Mason, Ohio—think Cincinnati—for the Western & Southern Open with a sky-high public-opinion rating. Then again, he's always had that. What he had yesterday, on his 32nd birthday, are scads and oodles of well wishes from fans and fellow tennis stars, including Maria Sharapova and Chris Evert:

Sure, Fed unloaded his new bovine companion, Desiree, this week (for a reported US$4,300), but he's got no shortage of loved ones, as evidenced by his own tweet today, his first since July 24:

And hey, America, as long as Federer is going to engage in practice sessions with young Denis Kudla, we all must thank him, frankly, for doing what he can—purposefully or not—to improve U.S. men's tennis, now famously without a Top 20 player come Monday for the first time in 40 years. (What's more, Andy Roddick's 2003 U.S. Open championship marks its tenth anniversary come September.)
