Novak Djokovic announced Tuesday he would withdraw from the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, finalizing the field and securing berths for Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, and Andrey Rublev

At the start of this week, the race for the final three places at the ATP Finals was down to four players in Djokovic, Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Rublev. Ruud and Rublev are competing at the 250 tournament in Metz, while de Minaur was in the starting draw for Belgrade.

Djokovic, on the other hand, had already cancelled his participation at last week’s Paris Masters and was not planning to play any other events this year. There was a big question mark over his participation in Turin.

Now, however, there is clarity. On Tuesday morning, the Serb announced on his Instagram story that he would not be competing in Turin.

‘It was an honour for me to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin,‘ he wrote.

I was really looking forward to being there. But due to a persistent injury, I won't be playing there next week.

‘Apologies to anyone who was planning on watching me there,’ he continued. ‘I wish all the players a great tournament. See you soon!’

With Djokovic's withdrawal, the eight singles players who will compete in the season-ender are now confirmed. Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev were the first two top stars to qualify in August and September respectively. Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev also secured their places as finalists early on.

Most recently, American Taylor Fritz also received a place in Turin after Rublev's defeat in the second round of Paris.

Now it is also clear for Ruud, de Minaur and Rublev: they will be competing in Turin. Potential replacements would be Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The ATP Finals 2024 will start on Sunday, 10 November, live on Tennis Channel.
