The 2024 Australian Open men’s draw has been made, and all eyes are on a potential Wimbledon final rematch between top seeds Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

Melbourne has long been Djokovic’s domain: the 24-time Grand Slam champion has triumphed Down Under a whopping 10 times, taking home the title in over half of his 18 main-draw appearances dating back to 2005.

Djokovic’s projected quarterfinal would be a rematch of the 2023 final, where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas is seeded No. 7 this year, and faces an intriguing first round against former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini.

Djokovic will begin his campaign for an 11th title against a qualifier, but could come up against a popcorn match of his own as early as the third round: familiar foes Gaël Monfils and Andy Murray are both unseeded and looming in his section, and the second week could kick off against American Ben Shelton, who he hung up on in an entertaining US Open semifinal last summer.

Rounding out the top half of the draw is an on-fire Jannik Sinner, who is seeded No. 4 after a strong finish to his 2023 season. Sinner twice beat Djokovic last fall, including their most recent clash at the Davis Cup Finals. The young Italian shares a quarter with No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev, and will play his first match against Dutch powerhouse Botic van de Zandschulp. American Frances Tiafoe is also in Sinner’s section, and could play a third round against No. 15 seed Karen Khachanov for a second straight year.

Alcaraz headlines the bottom half of the draw along with No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev, and will open against sentimental favorite Richard Gasquet in the first round. Alcaraz’s road to the final includes a projected third round against the always-entertaining No. 31 seed Alexander Bublik, one of American Tommy Paul or Jan-Lennard Struff and a possible quarterfinal against No. 6 seed Alexander Zverev.

Twice a finalist at the Australian Open, Medvedev, who will open against a qualifier, is in a quarter with No. 8 seed Holger Rune, but could face stiff opposition in the fourth round from No. 14 seed and Brisbane International champion Grigor Dimitrov.

Rune reached the round of 16 in only his second main-draw appearance in 2023. Rune’s first opponent is Yoshihito Nishioka.
