Former New York art dealer Laurence Salander has pleaded guilty to defrauding clients, including John McEnroe, and faces between six and 18 years in prison.
Between 2004 and 2007, Salander was said to have scammed clients such as McEnroe by obtaining their property through fraud, selling artworks that did not belong to him and luring investors into fake projects. The bankrupt Salander and his gallery must also pay back $120 million in restitution.—M.C.
