Top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland could meet Britain's Andy Murray in the Olympic final, which would be a repeat of their Wimbledon final, won by Federer in four sets.
With the exception of the mixed doubles, the Olympic draws were released on Thursday.
Federer will play Colombia's Alejandro Falla in the opening round, who almost upset him at Wimbledon two years ago. Federer could meet 16th seed Fernando Verdasco in the third round, No. 7 Janko Tipsarevic or No. 11 John Isner in the quarterfinals, and No. 4 David Ferrer or No. 8 Juan Martin Del Potro in the semis. Donald Young is the other American on Federer’s half of the draw and will meet Italy’s Andres Seppi in the first round.
No. 3 Murray is on No. 2 Novak Djokovic’s side of the draw. The Brit will open against Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka, could play No. 16 Richard Gasquet in the third round, and No. 6 Tomas Berdych in the quarters. Young American Ryan Harrison opens against Columbia’s Santiago Giraldo and could play Berdych in round two.
Djokovic opens against Fabio Fognini of Italy, could meet unseeded American Andy Roddick in the second round, No. 13 Marin Cilic of Croatia in the third round, and No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarters.
Victoria Azarenka is the top seed on the women’s side and will play Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round. American Serena Williams is the Belarussian’s half and will play former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in her opening match. Azarenka could play No. 16 Nadia Petrova in the third round, and No. 7 Angelique Kerber of Germany or No. 9 Sara Errani of Italy in the quarters. However, Errani opens against five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams of the U.S.
Serena could face 13th seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the third round, whom she beat in the 2010 Wimbledon final. She might also play eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki or 10th seed Li Na in the quarters.
Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland opens against Germany’s Julia Goerges. She could play American Varvara Lepchenko in the second round, No. 14 Maria Kirilenko in the third round, and No. 6 seed Petra Kvitova or No. 12 Dominika Cibulkova in the quarters.
Fifth seed Maria Sharapova opens against Israel's Shahar Peer, and could play the woman who took her out of Wimbledon, 15th seed Sabine Lisicki, in the third round. Fifth seed Samantha Stosur or 12th seed Ana Ivanovic could be Sharapova’s quarterfinal foe. Ivanovic opens against young American Christina McHale.
In doubles, top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan of the U.S. will face Thomaz Bellucci and Andre Sa of Brazil in the first round and could face defending gold medalists Federer and Wawrinka in the quarters. The other U.S. team of John Isner and Andy Roddick could face Czechs Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek in the second round.
The top-seeded U.S. women’s team of Lisa Raymond and Liezel Huber received a bye in the first round after the Bondarenko sisters pulled out. They may play the Radwanska sisters or Slovaks Daniela Hantuchova and Cibulkova in the second round. The defending gold medalists, the Williams sisters, are unseeded and open against Romanians Sorana Cirstea and Simona Halep, and may face Germans Kerber and Lisicki or the British wildcard team of Laura Robson and Heather Watson in the second round.
