The Miami Open will not leave its current location in Key Biscayne, according to tournament organizers.
There had been speculation that the IMG-owned event could move to another location when its $50 million redevelopment plan was challenged by local opposition and blocked by the courts.
But according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Mark Shapiro, IMG's president, insisted that the tournament would not leave, adding, "We absolutely love Key Biscayne. We just want to make it better.”
The tournament has been seen as falling behind the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, another combined event played just before Miami that has undergone significant renovation and construction since being bought by billionaire Larry Ellison.
"We would like to be able to match some of the improvements. We've talked to him about it," Shapiro said.
But he also indicated that the event would stop pursuing the blocked redevelopment plans, and look for other means of improving the tournament.
The Miami Open begins next week, and it’s just been announced that world No. 1 Andy Murray will be missing the tournament.
