After 10 years as captain of the U.S. Davis Cup team, Patrick McEnroe will resign his post after the World Group playoff in Bogota, Colombia, Sept. 17–19, McEnroe and the USTA announced in a press conference at the U.S. Open Monday morning.
“It is with a heavy heart that I am resigning as Davis Cup captain, but it is a decision I felt was best for the team and myself right now,” said McEnroe, who led the U.S. team to the title in 2007. “Davis Cup is a significant time commitment and this decision will allow me to focus more energy on my family and to the USTA Player Development program.”
McEnroe also announced the team for the upcoming relegation match: Mardy Fish, Sam Querrey, John Isner and Ryan Harrison will represent the U.S. in Colombia.
